My artistic work shows a constant dialogue and reflection between tradition and the contemporaneous, towards a constructive interaction between what is defined as local and universal cultural identity, causing the viewer a reflection and knowledge of the influence that tradition can exert in contemporary art. It is largely a feminine look on the feminine, raising questions about the role traditionally assigned to Portuguese women in the domestic sphere. All my work is the result of a constant research of traditional methods connected to the ancient feminine skills and symbolic elements that represent the imagistic universe of Azorean popular culture existing in various religious and secular manifestations. The use of iron arises as a contrast to the softness of the fabrics and especially the masculinity so characteristic of this material, in contrast to the femininity of textiles.
